There are good ones and bad ones.
The good ones help, some more than others.
The bad ones hurt, most of them for a while.
I know how you feel.
Now, before you think I’m going all Whitney Houston on you, let me stop you there. I’m not trying to be sappy or overly emotional. But if I can in some way jump in front a “bullet” for you, (or catch a grenade for you:), I want to do that for you now. And yes, I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve seen that movie – but I did have a sister. (My sister doesn’t account for my knowledge of Bruno Mars….)
If could funnel any of the hurt you might be feeling away from you I’d do it. For that matter, I’d do it for myself too. But the hurt comes, and we have to deal with it, and we have to deal with it in the right way.
We have to deal with the good in the right way too.
We can’t let the hurt drag us down & keep us from giving our best. But we can’t let the good delude our efforts either. We don’t have time to get beaten up. Neither do we have the time to get lazy.
I confess, I’ve done both. When things have gone well, I’ve given less effort. Thought I was good enough to coast on my abilities. When things have hurt, I’ve pouted. I’ve hung my head in shame and bathed my tattered ego in self-pity.
There, I said it.
But what I really want to say is….I BELIEVE!
If no one else believes in you today, I believe in you. Maybe you need to write it on your hand today to remind you. Don’t worry about the ink poisoning thing, (Legal jargon – I can’t be held responsible for ink poisoning….) do what you need to do to get you through the day & the week.
You might be saying, “you don’t know me, how can you possibly know if you believe in me?” Good question, glad you asked. I can say that because I believe God has all of us where we are for a purpose. And as long as God has you where you are, I can say without a doubt that I believe in you.
I can say it because it’s not about you or me. It’s about God. What we do is about God. It’s about lifting Him up to the highest place to draw everyone to Him. Could it be that when we get hurt or when we get proud it’s because it’s become something other than it should be? If this is all about God, and we’re giving Him our best, then we have to leave the results and repercussions up to Him, don’t we?
So, as you head into your week, planning another worship service after having been built up or beaten down, know that I believe in you. You are where you are for a reason. It’s all about God, and God is in control of your situation. So, rest in that. Have peace in that. If no one else believes in you, I do.
